SOULA
SOULA’s Archeological Services
SOULA offers a range of professional services to help agencies and our community partners comply with federal and state regulations. SOULA has conducted dozens of archaeological excavations and has experience complying with Oregon’s state guidelines for best practices. SOULA has a reputation for producing high quality reports in a timely manner, and translating the results of these investigations into public outreach.
Our laboratory includes an approved curational facility, a faunal comparative collection, as well as professional staff trained in ESRI GIS mapping, and artifact processing. SOULA’s in-house zooarchaeologists and affiliated scholars use the collection to conduct fine-grained analysis of historical foodways and past environments.
SOULA’s location on a university campus allows students to be embedded into professional projects in the lab and field and gives our staff members access to a robust support system helping us to smoothly negotiate administrative aspects of large projects.
Faunal Comparative Collection
SOULA’s faunal comparative collection allows for specialized zooarchaeology analysis to be conducted in-house. The collection has over 100 specimens of domesticated, native, and exotic animal species represented, and serves as an important tool for student learning and an understanding of past environments, markets, and mealtimes.
