July 1 – 26, 2024
This field school is an intensive four week, 4-credit course (ES 408) where students participate in archaeological investigations as part of the award-winning Oregon Chinese Diaspora Project. The field school will introduce students to historical archaeology method and theory, remote sensing, survey, excavation, GPS, artifact identification, stratigraphy, primary document analysis, and public outreach through fieldwork, field trips, and guest speakers. The first week of the field school will be based in Ashland, and students will participate in the program between 8 – 5 pm. The remainder of the project will be in eastern Oregon, where the class will travel together as a group and camp and share meals. Instructor approval required to register.
